Dear Resident,
Northern Township is undertaking the reconstruction of the entire length of Fairgrounds Road. The Township applied for, and was successful in receiving, a State LRIP (Local Road Improvement Program) grant that will fully fund the construction cost of this project.
Work will be performed by Mark Sand & Gravel, with Johnson Construction serving as the primary subcontractor. Tree clearing was completed earlier this spring, and reclaiming (grinding) of the existing bituminous surface will begin on May 1. The initial bulk grading and excavation/shaping portion of the project will proceed in four to five segments.
The overall project will include the following sequence of work:
1. Grading and preparation of the roadway subbase
2. Placement of new Class 5 aggregate base
3. Installation of concrete curb and gutter
4. Final asphalt paving
5. Turf restoration and project wrap-up
Access for residents, users, and businesses may shift during construction. Depending on the phase of work, access will alternate between Lakewood Drive (south) and Irvine Avenue (north). Signage and notifications will help guide traffic during each phase.
Mail for those with boxes directly on Fairgrounds Road (not Rodeo) will be relocated to the north or south ends of the project.
The contractor will make every effort to maintain access to properties and minimize disruptions. Construction is expected to be finally completed prior to August 1, 2025.
If you have any questions during the course of construction, please feel free to contact me at 218-759-9218 or by email at mark@fgcivil.com.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we improve this important infrastructure.
Sincerely,
Mark Fuller, PE
