Fairgrounds Rd Project – 2025

Northern Township is undertaking a full reconstruction of Fairgrounds Road NW, a key corridor connecting US 71 and Irvine Avenue (CSAH 15). This vital route supports traffic to the Beltrami County Fairgrounds, several local businesses—including a gas station, car wash, mini-storage, and auto shops—and serves as a key access point for residential neighborhoods.

Over the years, this road was developed in segments by different entities, resulting in inconsistencies in design and deterioration due to heavy use, high groundwater, and poor base conditions. Soil borings have confirmed structural issues requiring full reconstruction.

The project will:

• Improve traffic flow and safety with new turn lanes and medians
• Realign the Lakewood Drive intersection to enhance safety
• Accommodate non-motorized users with a paved pedestrian route
• Support future growth in residential and business activity in the corridor

All necessary right-of-way has been secured, and engineering is complete. Construction is planned for 2024. The reconstructed road will also serve as an important alternate route during highway incidents and will have a minimum service life of 10 years.

This project is supported by Beltrami County and MnDOT and is fully funded through the Local Road Improvement Program.
